Abstract: This article analyses some problems regarding the economic development of Elbasan city at the end of XIX-th century and the beginning of the XX-th century. It uses ottoman original documents (Kadi's registers for the period 1892-1908) which were translated and used for the first time for these problems. The analysis of these documents indicates that the economic development of the city was based on guilds functioning, which represented almost all branches of handicraft. At that period, because of the competition, guilds had started to apply new methods in the area of production and exchange. The center of the market and its streets had about 900 guilds' shops. Guilds were in charge of the production and the sales. During that time, the first handicraft manufactures were established in Elbasan and then preceded the construction of the small factories.

Abstrakti: Ky artikull synon të trajtojë probleme që lidhen me zhvillimin ekonomik të qytetit të Elbasanit në fund të shekullit XIX dhe në fillim të shekullit XX. Artikulli shfrytëzon dokumente origjinale osmane (regjistrat e kadiut të qytetit, për vitet 1892-1908) të cilat janë përkthyer e shfrytëzuar për herë të parë për këto probleme. Nga analiza e këtyre dokumentave rezulton se zhvillimi ekonomik i qytetit ishte bazuar mbi funksionimin e esnafëve, të cilët pothuajse përfaqësonin të gjitha degët e zejtarisë. Esnafët, në këtë periudhë, për shkak të konkurencës kishin filluar të aplikonin metoda të reja në fushën e prodhimit dhe të këmbimit. Qëndra e pazarit së bashku me rrugët e tij numëronin afër 900 dyqane të esnafëve. Esnafët merreshin me prodhimin dhe shitjen e produkteve. Gjate kësaj kohe në Elbasan kishin lindur edhe punishtet e para zejtare të cilat paraprinë ndërtimin e fabrikave të vogla.
